The idea that Apple puts both Touch ID and Face ID in an iPhone has been floating around for several years. Now, a new report from WSJ confirms that this could be the year that our Touch ID on screen joins Face ID on iPhone.
Back in September, we saw the latest patent granted by Apple covering the Touch ID on the screen. However, Apple has many patents covering this technology that we already saw in 2016.
But 2021 could be the year that Touch ID and Face ID on iPhone go under the screen. Back in October, we saw how highly accurate leak L0vetodream predicted the feature would come to the iPhone, but did not share it.
In mid-January, Bloomberg, referring to Apple engineers, reported that Apple was testing the on-screen Touch ID for this year’s iPhones. However, the report states that it is still unclear whether it will eventually be in the production version.
WSJ today confirmed Bloomberg’s report by saying two former Apple employees confirmed that the company “was working on the screen fingerprint technology and was considering including both Touch ID and Face ID on the same device.”
