Worrying mutation E484K occurred spontaneously in the United Kingdom …

LONDON, Feb. 2 (Reuters) – The E484K mutation of the new coronavirus has occurred spontaneously in the UK variant of the virus, a professor of outbreak medicine, who is part of a panel advising the UK government, said on Tuesday.

“The mutation with the greatest concern, which we call E484K, has also occurred spontaneously in the new Kent tribe in parts of the country,” Calum Semple told BBC radio. The British variant was first detected in the southern English county of Kent. (Written by Estelle Shirbon; edited by Guy Faulconbridge)
