World badges illuminated in blue and white in honor of Israel’s Independence Day

Buildings and beacons across the US and the world lit up in blue and white on Tuesday night to celebrate Israel’s 73rd Independence Day.

Outside the US, Ukraine celebrated the festival and illuminated its city hall in Kiev in blue and white. In Zagreb, Croatia, an Israeli flag is projected on a fountain in the city center. In Uzbekistan, the Israeli flag is projected on a hotel overlooking the central Amira Temura Square in Tashkent, the capital of the country. Similar gestures have been seen in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottawa, San Paulo and Vilnius.

Independence Day began Wednesday night when the memorial day came to an end with the annual state ceremony on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
