Fans are excited to see Wonder Woman back in action in the movie Wonder Woman 1984 – starring Gal Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins – apparently not willing to pay for it. The new film, which launched on December 25, dropped 67 percent for its second weekend in local American theaters. The film’s opening weekend $ 36.1 million, with a global total of $ 118.5 million so far.

The large decline in Wonder Woman gross resources can be attributed to a number of factors, including theaters closed due to pandemic; fans watch the movie on HBO Max (at no extra cost to its subscribers); and the film does not get such stellar reviews from fans who share their opinions on social media.

The drop in movie profits can also be attributed to the release date of Wonder Woman 1984. The movie was originally on June 2020, and August, and October, and then finally in December on Christmas Day. Most comics do not open on Christmas Day.

It is also not clear how much HBO Max had for the impact on the final grossing film. Fans who could not see Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters due to pandemic, tuned to the movie on HBO Max. If they were already subscribers, they should have seen Wonder Woman for free.

And then there are the judges ‘and judges’ reviews. Wonder Woman 1984’s Rotten Tomatoes score is 61 percent of critics and 74 percent of fans.

This is well below the original 2017 Wonder Woman movie, with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 93 percent from critics and 84 percent from fans. This is unexpected considering the critics’ first reactions to Wonder Woman 1984 were positive.

Not only that, on the release date of the film, fans used social media to express disappointment in Wonder Woman in 1984. The negative word of mouth could also have contributed to the film being less than an excellent box office performance.

Either way, the news of the declining number of his second weekend is not good news for DC Comics or Warner Bros. Time will tell whether other movies will suffer the same fate for the same day that airs on services like HBO Max.
