Wonder Woman 1984 increases HBO Max activation by 17.7M as hybrid streaming and theatrical release bear fruit
It was the theatrical release of the best-grossing pandemic after its debut on Christmas Day.
And it turns out that the decision of Warner Bros. to bring Wonder Woman 1984 on the WarnerMedia subscriber streaming service HBO Max in premiere, at the same time as in movie theaters, has borne very good fruit.
The parent company AT&T revealed on Wednesday that 17.7 million activated users had been added to HBO Max by the end of December.

Big success: the release of Wonder Woman 1984 simultaneously on HBO Max and on Christmas Day in theaters boosted the activation of WarnerMedia’s subscription streaming app
The number was double the number it had at the end of September.
AT&T CEO John Stankey shared the news of the success during a fourth-quarter return.
“The 1984 release of Wonder Woman helped increase our local HBO Max and HBO subscribers to more than 41 million, a full two years faster than our initial forecast,” Stankey said, as reported by THR.com.
Only two days after the release of the movie, Warner Bros. announced that it would be fast. It follows a third film in the franchise with Gadot regaining her role as Diana Prince and Patty Jenkins as writer and director.

The success of Wonder Woman 1984 in both cinemas and streaming will boost confidence in the company’s controversial decision to proceed with a hybrid release of its entire 2021 films.
The joint premiere of films in theaters and on streaming is likely to further increase activation.
‘Activations’ counts the number of people who download (activate) the HBO Max app.
THR.com reports the company hopes to reach between 50 and 55 million HBO Max customers in the US by 2025.
WarnerMedia also plans to launch an ad-supported version of HBO Max in the second quarter of this year and launch the streaming service internationally.
