Women accused of attacking US postal service in Flint

FLINT, Michigan (WJRT) – Federal and local investigations are underway after two women allegedly attacked a U.S. postal service in Flint, Flint, on Thursday.

The alleged attack took place on Floyd McCree Drive between the River Village and Schafer Square apartment complexes. The Flint Police Department is investigating with the US Postal Inspection Service, which is the postal service’s law enforcement agency.

A bystander captured the video of the attack around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. It appears that his family member joined the postal worker when two other women held her and pulled her hair in the process.

One of the alleged attackers can be heard shouting in the video: ‘She hit me first’. Then the video shows the two women jumping in their car again and driving fast. The man who filmed the attack looked at the damage to the front of the mail truck before the footage ended.

“You know, you get a video and it’s always useful, but never tell the full story, because you never know when the camcorder was turned on, what happened before, what happened after it was turned off. So there are still some unanswered questions, ‘said Genesee County prosecutor David Leyton.

The Flint police station has arrested at least one woman in connection with the incident. Leyton is awaiting answers to some questions before deciding whether to issue criminal charges in the case.

He said the postal worker involved in the incident was treated and released from a nearby hospital for several cuts. She is expected to fully recover.

The mail carrier could not complete her route, which is a big deal for the postal service. Their motto is that even severe weather does not stop their work.

Investigators are still investigating the damage to the mail van.

‘We’re trying to figure out what happened then. Which came first, the chicken or the egg – the accident or the assault – and why did it happen? And if there was an accident, how did it happen, ‘Leyton said. “All of these things are still being investigated.”

Authorities do not know the relationship between the women accused of assaulting the postman.

The National Association of Letter Carriers, which is the union for postal services, could not be reached for comment Friday. The U.S. Postal Inspectorate issued the following statement on Friday indicating that the attack had nothing to do with stimulus checks:

‘The safety and well-being of employees of the Postal Service is a top priority for the US Postal Inspection Service, the federal branch for law enforcement of the US Postal Service. Postal inspectors are aware of the incident in which a postal service employee was involved. In incidents like these, we work closely with our law enforcement partners and prosecutors, in this case the Flint Police Department, the District Attorney in Flint County, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, to resolve these crimes and determine the best course of action. prosecution. There is no indication that this incident is related to the payment of the economic impact payments. The investigation continues. ”
