Wolff WDs from Farmers Insurance Open with hand injury

Matthew Wolff withdrew with a hand injury after the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open.

Wolff shot 78 on Torrey Pines’ South Course while playing alongside Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka.

“This week I had an injury to my right hand that I struggled to play through, but has unfortunately continued to worsen over the past 24 hours,” Wolff said in a statement. ‘It became clear that I had to make the difficult but right decision to address the pain properly in order to play 100% as quickly as possible. I’m disappointed to be withdrawing from one of my favorite tournaments of the year, but would like to thank the PGA TOUR, Farmers Insurance team and incredible volunteers for their hospitality. ”

Wolff made 14 parks on the South Course on Thursday, but also two triple bogeys on the seventh and tenth holes. He starts his day with a thug on the first hole before holding a bunker shot at 18 for his lone birdie of the day.

Wolff is 16th in the FedExCup this season after finishing second in the U.S. Open and the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
