President Trump’s private social club in Palm Beach, Florida, hosted a New Year’s Eve gala where masks ate indoors and danced to performances by Vanilla Ice and members of the Beach Boys.
Mr. Trump himself did not attend the black party at the club, Mar-a-Lago, as usual, but cut his holiday short and returned to Washington without explanation on Thursday.
But members of the president’s family and an extensive political circle took part in an event that disputed the warnings against indoor rallies during the holidays, as the coronavirus rises to its deadliest level. The gala also appears to be in violation of specific guidelines posted on the Palm Beach County website, which requires face coverage in ‘all businesses and businesses’.
There was Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and his girlfriend, former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle. Rudolph W. Giuliani, the personal advocate of the president and a former mayor of New York, was featured in online recordings with a female partner in a ballroom dance in a version of ‘New York, New York’. According to The Palm Beach Post, more than 500 guests were expected.
“Okay, that’s great. Vanilla Ice is playing the Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve party, ‘writes the younger mr. Trump in a Facebook post featuring a clip of the 53-year-old rapper, best known for his hit hit “Ice Ice Baby,” performs in front of hundreds of nascent entertainers dancing awkwardly in formal wear and without masks. “Child of the ’90s, you can not see how great it is. Besides, I got the birthday call, so it’s quite wonderful.”
Other guests included Mr. Trump’s second son, Eric, and his wife, Lara; the president’s daughter Tiffany Trump; Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican from Florida; and Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow in Palm Beach and a prominent supporter of the president.
Social media entries of the event also featured live performances by Teri Nunn, lead singer of the 1970s and 80s new-wave band Berlin, known for the song “Take My Breath Away”, and two members of the Beach Boys, who now performs without founding members Al Jardine and Brian Wilson. (Mr. Jardine and Mr. Wilson disapproved of performances played by the tour version of the group, presented by another founding member, Mike Love, in support of Mr. Trump.)
A menu posted by one participant on Instagram has a first course of “Mr. Trump’s Wedge Salad, ”followed by cheese tortellini and a Wagyu appetizer.
Tickets for the event apparently cost $ 1,000. Many were probably sold days before the first news reports came out on Wednesday that Mr. Trump would not attend.
One photo posted online by Eric Trump contains at least 15 party guests and one server in the background. Only the server was wearing a mask.
Mr. Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, unexpectedly returned to the White House hours before the party, which he had originally planned to attend. It was unclear why Mr. Trump has flown back to Washington, where he has not appeared in public since his return.
As the new year approached Thursday night, Mr. thought. Trump to his election defeat as he continues to spread false allegations of voter fraud. Less than 15 minutes before midnight, as millions of Americans prepare to roster the arrival of 2021, Mr. Trump tweeted two clips from the right-wing One America News Network to advance conspiracy theories about the election.
On Friday, Mr. Trump continued to send election-related tweets, including several that promote a protest rally in Washington on Jan. 6, when Congress will convene to elect Elected President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
Mr. Trump also tweeted a complaint after Congress voted for the first time to override one of its vetoes, and to enforce a comprehensive bill on military spending. The president complained that the measure did not repeal a law protecting technology companies such as Facebook and Twitter from liability for their users’ posts, and that Congress did not approve the larger economic stimulus checks he demanded.
“Now they want to give people plagued by the China virus $ 600, rather than the $ 2000 they so desperately need,” he wrote. “Not fair, or clever!”
