Withdrawals ordered during the burning of brushes in Cherry Creek State Park

AURORA, Colo. A brush fire burning in a wetland area near Cherry Creek State Park has forced evacuations into the area.

Evacuations are in effect for residents in the immediate area west of Parker Road and people in Cherry Creek State Park.

This is the second major brush fight firefighters amid strong gusts of wind in the metro area. A 100-acre grass fire that burned near Bear Creek Lake Park and Fox Hollow Golf Course near Morrison caused evacuations Sunday afternoon. Most of the fire was out in the late afternoon.

The Southern Metro firefighters are at the scene of the Cherry Creek fire and are working to gain control of the fire before the flame length increases with sustained gusts of wind. No structures are currently threatened.

Firefighters said the wind was blowing the northwest side of the fire, making the suppression difficult and dangerous by coals ending up in trees and dropping branches.
