With the drop in tests, the positivity rate rises to 5%

SAN ANTONIO San Antonio officials reported 200,818 total COVID-19 cases and 2,990 total deaths in Bexar County, an increase of 154 new cases on Monday. No new deaths were reported.

Due to a drop in testing, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said the weekly positivity hit 5.6%, up 2.6% last week. Nirenberg said the decline is likely due to the spring break, as school districts did not test during the holidays.

Health officials also reported that 215 patients were admitted to the hospital, 90 to the intensive care unit and 53 to ventilators.

There are 16% of the beds with staff and 72% of the fans available.

Nirenberg, along with Judge Nelson Wolff in Bexar Province, condemned racist graffiti found in a ramen restaurant in San Antonio. The case is being investigated by San Antonio police, and FBI investigators say they are ready to help if a federal offense is suspected in the case.

“We are going to strive for and ensure that justice is done,” Nirenberg said.
