With the connected cube I learned how to solve a Rubik’s cube

While the answers are already there, a new Bluetooth-connected Rubik’s cube (and companion app) unravels the terminology and simplifies it all in a guided tutorial. The Connected Cube will unfortunately not land me on the world rankings, but I can now, more and more reliably, solve a Rubix cube from scratch – without any help.

The Rubik’s Connected Cube is $ 59, which makes it more expensive than typical Rubik’s Cubes, which are usually less than $ 20. You pay the premium for an iron-clad way to learn how to set up your scribble, and a step-by-step method that you can solve without avoiding human error.

Rubik's cube and app linked

The only visible difference from a cube that you did not solve in your childhood is a cross-shaped recess on the yellow face. This is where you recharge the puzzle so that it can connect via Bluetooth. With a single charge you will have a good week trying to solve the cube. It looks, feels and moves differently than any other Rubik’s Cube. The magic lies with the companion app. This is a teacher with infinite patience who can track you every turn and, well, screw up.

The Rubik’s Connected app is mostly focused on competitive features and fast solution timers aimed at experienced cubes, and the study section for the rest of us is moved to the last tab. GoCube, the company behind Rubik’s Connected, has made linked cubes in the past – this is one with a few (undoubtedly important) Rubik’s brands. It also makes a more advanced model that burns as you progress. It also costs $ 20 more.

The solution guide contains a detailed course that covers the terminology and the movements used to give your first solution. It’s a seven step process (there are faster, more complicated ways to solve it), and some steps will be more complicated than others. At least I did.
