With LastPass’ free offer, you can now choose between access to mobile and computers

LastPass, the popular password manager, last month announced changes to the free version of its software designed to make its Premium paid version much more attractive – and the free much less.

LastPass provides access to two device types – computers (including all browsers running on computers and laptops) or mobile devices (including cell phones, smart watches and tablets), ”the company wrote in a blog post. “As of March 16, 2021” – it is today – “LastPass Free will only include access to unlimited devices of one type.”

What it means: If you are a LastPass-free user, you have to choose whether you want to access your passwords on your computer – in the browser or via the computer app – or on your mobile device. You will not be able to use both, although your passwords will be synchronized on different devices. That said, you will have the opportunity to turn off your main device three times from today. (LastPass also offers a limited time discount on Premium subscribers, presumably to dampen the sting.)

However, if you find it all too cumbersome and you just want to switch completely from password managers, I have good news for you: it’s pretty easy to move your passwords out of LastPass. I actually did it myself by (of course) The edgesee guide. I chose Bitwarden because it’s synced across mobile and desktops and it’s open source.

If you’ve achieved this so far and do not have a password manager yet – what are you doing here? Go for it.
