A night to remember is a brand new fan for The Witcher 3, focused on the events of Blood & WineWhile I like to explore new writing and new battles, I’m also interested in the AI technology used here to mimic the brand sounds of Doug Cockle, Geralt’s voice actor.

The mod uses technology called CyberVoice, which is able to simulate Geralt (albeit already monotonous) voice to an extent that the credits of this mod needed to wonder, shit, did they get Cockle to do it?

I mean, look at this trailer, it’s pretty damn close!

CyberVoice is similar to Tacotron, which we recently highlighted because we did much the same thing when it allowed a team of modders to use voice acting that sounds like members of the original Skyrim throw.

While impressive, it is also a legitimate minefield waiting to happen, because what these services do is enable people to repeat the performance of an actor without their permission, or to have to pay for it or to sign a contract.

Anyway … this is a conversation for another day, and for lawyers and rights holders to sort out. For now, you can see the mod here (although it does get noticed, you really need to be done Blood & Wine before you kick off).
