Wisconsin provides first shipment of Johnson & Johnson vaccine

The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is on its way to Wisconsin. This week’s shipment is expected to contain approximately 47,000 doses.

Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine is the first single-dose vaccine in the US to be considered safe and effective for the prevention of COVID-19. Once the initial doses arrive in Wisconsin this week, they will be prioritized for educators.

The vaccine has simpler storage requirements than current vaccines. It can be stored in a refrigerator for up to three months, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, allowing the vaccine to be sent directly to all parts of the state.

The Milwaukee Department of Health is devoting the first two weeks of Phase 1b to vaccinating teachers. It’s all in an effort to get students and teachers back in the classroom for personal learning.

“The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be a game changer for our nationwide response to COVID-19,” said Gov. Tony Evers. “One of the biggest obstacles we have faced is the supply, and it will get more vaccine in Wisconsin. This vaccine also protects people and it appears that it can prevent serious diseases of the virus after just one dose, which making it more accessible to Wisconsinites and reducing the burden on our vaccine suppliers. ‘

People can expect similar symptoms after vaccination with all the COVID-19 vaccines, such as feeling tired, having a sore arm, swelling in the arm where you got the vaccination, and fever. All indications are that the vaccine works.
