Winter weather NC: Parts of central North Carolina to see snow-freezing rain Sunday morning from Triangle to areas north of I-85; icy roads expected

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – Expect to see a day full of cold rain in most of Central North Carolina on Sunday.

A winter weather advice from the triangle in the north and west took effect on Saturday night and will continue until Sunday afternoon.

Late Saturday night until Sunday, blizzards started for areas north of the Triangle, but nothing like that the snow that fell a few days ago.

A light winter mix is possible early in the morning from the Triangle in the north from around 07:00 to 09:00, bringing rain, sleet or snow. It should then change to rain. There may be up to 0.25 ” ice buildup north and west of I-85, and this should possibly be avoided in these areas tomorrow morning. Areas south of the Triangle will mostly see freezing rain.

Although the effect on the triangle should be minimal, freezing rain can cause some slippery spots on the roads as the temperature hangs around the freezing point.
