Winter storm moving through Wisconsin. Here’s what you can expect!

The most widespread winter storm of the season so far is moving through southern Wisconsin. Warning days are forecast from tonight until Wednesday morning.

Tonight it will be cloudy and windy with a period of moderate to heavy snow, which can sometimes drop to 1 centimeter per hour. This, together with windy winds, will lead to limited visibility and treacherous road conditions. The heaviest snow probably falls between 20:00 and midnight.

The temperature will keep almost 30 degrees overnight. On Wednesday it will be mostly cloudy, windy and colder with light snow, possibly mixed with icy rain and drizzle in the morning which will decrease until noon. Additional small snow accumulations are possible during the morning. The total snowfall for the storm should be between 4 and 9 ″ over much of south-central Wisconsin, with the heaviest total south and west of Dane County.

As the snow will be wet and heavy, along with stormy winds and poor visibility, great impact on the trip is expected. It is also clear that the snow will be challenging, as the wet and heavy snow is more difficult to shovel, and can often cause it to blow. Expect icy conditions for hikers.
