Winter Storm Forecast: Large Midwestern, Northeastern Cities to Get a Foot of Snow

A winter storm forecast to hit the Midwest and Northeast by the end of Tuesday is expected to bring about a foot of snow to major cities.

The National Weather Service (NWS) estimates 13 inches of snow for Chicago and Buffalo on Monday morning, while Cleveland is expected to gain a foothold.

“Heavy snow and icy rain are expected to move north from the Mississippi and Ohio valleys to the northeast today,” an adviser said. A large portion of 6 to 12 inches of snow is forecast from the Ohio Valley and the eastern Great Lakes to northern New England. ‘

“South of the heavy snowfall, freezing rain is expected to cause an abundance of problems with more than a tenth of an inch of ice in the forecast from east Texas northeast to south of New England,” the advisory adviser added.

Around the Midwest and Northeast, the winter storm will leave an estimated 10 inches of snow in Indianapolis and Burlington, Vermont.

Cincinnati is expected to receive 9 inches of snow, while the NWS predicts that Columbus will see 8 inches.

It is also predicted that St. Louis will be up to 7 inches of snow.

“There will be significant travel disruptions and the power outages in the path of the system will be of concern,” the NWS said.
