Winona Ryder says it feels ‘surreal’

Starring Timothée Chalamet as Edward’s son, Edgar Scissorhands, and Winona Ryder playing her role as Kim, the sequel to the 1990 cult classic is the two life-threatening after Edgar inherited his father’s scissors. (Edward was played by Johnny Depp.)

Ryder, who is currently starring in Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” told CNN that she is excited to return to the role because the original film “occupies an incredibly special place in my heart.”

“That time is full of so many good memories. It’s really a special film for me,” she says, adding that she always enjoys working with director Tim Burton.

From Chalamet, Ryder says he was ultimately the perfect person for the role.

“It was pretty surreal to have Timothee play for my son Edgar. He absolutely blew me away,” she said. “He’s such a beautiful guy, so talented, so incredibly friendly and unique. Really the perfect person to embody that character.”

Ryder added that she found it surprisingly enjoyable to portray her own role, and that she especially wanted to participate in the ad because General Motors promoted an electric car, which eventually made Edgar drive.
