Microsoft is taking one of Windows 10’s smallest pieces of junk behind the wood shed in Redmond, so get ready to say goodbye to the 3D Objects folder.
You may not even know it’s there, to be honest, because it’s one of those weird little digital pieces that Windows 10 has built up over the years. But as Microsoft approaches its major Sun Valley update – which is believed to renew the look of Windows 10 – it begins its early spring cleanup.
Microsoft announced the news itself in a blog post published on Wednesday, February 24, entitled “Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21322.” TechRadar reported earlier on this announcement.
Among the changes and enhancements are the postnotes “The 3D object folder will no longer be displayed as a special folder in File Explorer after it has been updated to this build.”
Sayonara and good freedom, we say. For those who do not remember, there was a time (around 2016) when Microsoft was all about 3D objects. Therefore, you have paint 3D and 3D effects in programs.
Microsoft’s obsession with all three-dimensional things has also revealed that Microsoft’s HoloLens has been unveiled, the mixed-reality spectacle that has since become more of an accessory in the business world than anything else.
These days, the 3D object map only takes up space that we will use better (we hope) in the above-mentioned Sun Valley update, which takes place in the fall of 2021.
Of course, Microsoft is reluctant to disable any feature altogether, giving users the way to find the 3D Objects folder when they need it. You can find it by typing “% userprofile%” in File Explorer, or by selecting “Show all folders” in the navigation pane option.
