If Washington had not included Ryan Fitzpatrick or any other quarterback in free agency, their potential interest in a quarterback with the nineteenth overall pick in the draft would have been striking. With Fitzpatrick in the kraal, it is less obvious that they are at no. 19 on quarter will grab.
This makes it more likely that they have the option to take a quarter they want.
If the depth map consisted only of Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinecke, the concept would begin, any team that selected under number 19, with an interest in which quarter the teens would fall, would have known that a move ahead of Washington would probably be necessary would be. These teams are perhaps less likely to make a move and throw the dice over the possibility that Washington will keep the players they have.
Fitzpatrick, who got a rookie in the first round in 2020 before becoming a relay pitcher in a sport they usually do not deploy, will certainly not be excited about the prospect of jerking around again. The $ 10 million base salary he will earn in 2021 – about double his Miami salary – could be a sign that he will not have to deal with it again.
Which in turn makes it more likely that Washington will have the option to take a quarter at number 19.
Either way, the move to signing Fitzpatrick increases the possibility that there will be a suitable quarterback on board if Washington is on the clock, as it makes the team’s need for the position less clear.
