As Americans prepare to receive their third stimulus test, some people ask, “Are prisoners going to receive these checks, too?”
Before President Joe Biden signed the $ 1.9 billion coronavirus relief bill, also known as the U.S. Rescue Plan Act, some members of Congress expressed concern that people in prison convicted of murder and other crimes stole the money as well as others. Americans would receive.
Sen. Tom Cotton recently tweeted“Senate Democrats only voted to give criminals in jail stimulus checks.” Cotton also said Boston bomber Dzohkar Tsarnaev and white supremacist and mass murderer Dylann Roof will receive these checks.
Although it is unclear whether Tsarnaev and Roof would receive the checks, some of the new stimulus checks will go to prisoners. It’s a lot like the stimulus investigations of the CARES Act and the Consolidated Credits Act, which Cotton voted in favor of, just like other Republican senators.
Cotton’s press secretary said he voted for the CARES law because COVID-19 was an ‘unprecedented problem’ at the time ‘and they said he voted for the Consolidated Credits Act because’ there was no opportunity to pass the bill to edit. ‘
Cotton is not wrong when he said that money from the U.S. Rescue Plan Act goes to some inmates or their family members. However, this did not seem to stop him from voting for previous stimulus tests.
