Will Jason Garrett be back for a second season as attacking coordinator for the New York Giants?
This is a good question after the Giants finished 31st in the league in points, yards and offense in 2020, and were tied with the New England Patriots for a league low in pass rate with 12. Second-year quarterback Daniel Jones, statistics, did not have the success he had as a rookie who threw the ball.
Garrett, who has been coordinating an offense and coordinating plays for the first time since being named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 2010, had to circumvent the loss of Saquon Barkley, a lack of dynamic reception options and a developing offensive line. Yet his offense sometimes seemed static compared to many of the league’s more successful units.
Jones, in turn, wants nothing to do with being dragged into a debate over Garrett’s future.
“I’m not sure I can comment on that,” Jones said on Monday. ‘But I definitely enjoyed learning from Coach Garrett. I learned a lot of football, I learned a lot of philosophy on offense, how he sees the game, what he learned in his time in the NFL as a player and coach. I really enjoyed working with him. I look forward to continuing it. I enjoyed it a lot. ”
If he wants to move on from Garrett, head coach Joe Judge could turn to Freddie Kitchens, the Giants’ coach. Kitchens was an offensive coordinator in Cleveland before becoming the Browns’ head coach in 2019. Judge may also look at coaches of any of the half dozen persons where head coaches have been dismissed.
