Will Cyberpunk 2077’s 1.2 patch still come out in February?

As always, it was pretty radio silent about the state of Cyberpunk 2077, though this time, with an added complication.

CDPR did manage to pull out the promised 1.1 patch for Cyberpunk in January, but with a week left in February, the supposedly much larger, more substantial 1.2 patch has not yet been previewed or released, when it would appear this month. . .

The complexity, of course, is the recent, protracted hack of CDPR that has managed everything from employee data to the source code of Cyberpunk, The Witcher 3 and Gwent. There are conflicting reports about whether the code was sold or not, and CDPR is apparently trying to use removals to prevent anyone from doing anything substantial with it.

This means that it seems possible that the 1.2 patch could be delayed if the hack caused too much disruption than CDPR. Granted, teams chasing hackers and those who would buy stolen information from them are probably different from those who chase down bugs and errors in Cyberpunk, but it is logical that there may be some overlap as to the chaos that the extensive hack causes , is too harmful. For example, the hackers appeared to be encrypting CDPR’s servers that they needed to recover from backups. Who knows if there are job losses?

Cyberpunk still needs a big patch, which it hasn’t had since its release in December. There have been a number of smaller scale corrections, and even the original 1.1 patch feels like a bigger correction rather than anything transformative. Sony still did not allow Cyberpunk 2077 to be sold digitally in the PS Store, after it launched shortly after its launch, due to technical issues and ongoing refund claims. This is the version of the game for both PS4 and PS5, and Cyberpunk’s console sales were actively declining in January, as it was not for sale in the digital store of the largest gaming platform in the world.

It’s not clear what Sony will need to make the game as “ready” enough to be resold, but CDPR burned the bridge when they told people to chase after Sony for refunds if Sony did not had digital return policies with everyone (they had to make one just for Cyberpunk).

Cyberpunk remains full of bugs and performance issues, and long-term issues, such as traffic and police intelligence, are unlikely to be fixed in a major emerging issue. And no one expects the promised free DLC for the game, whatever it may be, until late spring or early summer at this point. The official Cyberpunk account has not tweeted since February 5 when it released a hotfix to fix an issue discovered with unsafe mods.

CDPR did move in with the last patch in January, so it is possible that they will do the same this week. But the hack complicates matters and the long, long-term solutions for Cyberpunk, including a subsequent upgrade to consoles, appear to be an eternity.
