David Schoen unknowingly gave a lesson in orthodox Jewish customs during the indictment of former President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
Schoen, Trump’s lawyer, rested his hand on top of his head every time he took a sip of water, arguing that the case was unconstitutional.
Several viewers noticed Schoen’s seemingly unusual drinking habit, and some even suggested that he try to drop a rope.
“Is anyone going to admit how David Schoen drinks water?” wrote one user.
But the lawyer probably took the ritual step because he is religiously observant.
Rabbi Menchem Genack, executive director of the Kosher Department of the Orthodox Union, explained that since Schoen is an observant Jew, he should cover his head and say a blessing when eating or drinking.
“Every time we eat or drink something, we bless to thank God and cover our heads, usually with a yarmulke, to show respect and acknowledge that there is someone above us,” Genack told The Post .
“Since he was not wearing a yarmulke, he at least wanted to cover his head with his hand.”
