Why the Seattle Seahawks CB Pierre Desir Returns

The Seattle Seahawks bring back a familiar face as Bob Condotta reports that Pierre Desir has signed a 1-year contract with Seattle. The financial terms of the contract have yet to be announced.

Desir began his 2020 season in New Jersey and played for the Jets before being fired in November. He made his way to Baltimore through the training group, where he jumped on and off the entire active roster in December, including in the division game against the Bills. He finished the season with three interceptions and defended eight passes. A pick of the 4th round by the Cleveland Browns in draft in 2014, he also started playing for the Chargers before spending three consecutive seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, where he collected five interceptions and defended 26 passes between 2017 and 2019 has.

Seahawks fans can remember Pierre from his brief stint during the 2016 season, where he spent the last half of the year in Seattle’s training squad after being released by the Chargers. He stayed with the team during the preseason in 2017 before being released during the final roster cut in September. Desir is tall, tall and physically looks like part of a Seattle corner. Per PFF, 2020 was an offseason for him in the passing defense, but he consistently rated above average in defending the run and is a willing striker.

By signing Pierre Desir, the Seahawks have now added as many corners as they lost in the free agency, the other being Ahkello Witherspoon. He’s unlikely to be a direct replacement for the late Shaquill Griffin or Quinton Dunbar, but he’s struggling to add depth to a DB squad that will look very different this season than in 2020.
