Why Emmy Rossum Returns for Shameless Final ‘Impossible’

Shameless fans shared many thoughts on his final finale, including wish Emmy Rossum‘s character Fiona made an appearance for the sake of closure. Alas, it was not in the cards.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Published Monday, April 12, showrunner John Wells explained that Emmy, who left the Showtime series during the final season 9 that aired in March 2019, was hoping to return for the finale on April 11th. But the logistics just did not work in the midst of the pandemic, as the 34-year-old star lives in New York, Shameless filmed in Los Angeles.

“We were trying to get Emmy – and Emmy wanted to come back,” John said. “We caught it at the wrong moment. We wanted her to come back and had some storylines about her return, and she wanted to do it. Based on what’s going on with the pandemic, when we planned it, there were ‘so many increases, I can not remember what it was – but the quarantines resumed between New York and Los Angeles, and it was impossible to figure out how to get her back.’
