The entire San Francisco Bay Area will be in the red level of the state’s COVID-19 reopening plan beginning Sunday.
The California Department of Public Health announced Friday that because 2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been successfully rolled out in the most vulnerable neighborhoods, the state has reached a new benchmark to slow the spread of viruses and that it has 13 provinces of the most promoting restricted area. the level of the lighter level on March 14, which could reopen new businesses and activities, including dining inside. These provinces include Contra Costa County and Sonoma in the Bay, and beyond the region, Amador, Colusa, Los Angeles, Mendocino, Mono, Orange, Placer, San Benito, San Bernardino, Siskiyou and Tuolumne. The seven other Bay Area provinces have already made the leap to the red level.
This news may surprise some people, as the state usually updates the assignments on Tuesdays.
The state plans to do a second update next Tuesday and, based on data projections, could move 13 additional counties from purple to red, including Kings, Lake, Monterey, Riverside, Sacramento, San Diego, San Joaquin, Santa Barbara, Sutter, Tehama, Tulare, Ventura and Yuba.
Government Gavin Newsom announced on March 4 that the state will dedicate 40% of the state’s vaccine supply to the hardest hit communities, and set measures to increase vaccinations in the communities. The state said Friday that the benchmark has been reached and that the provincial levels for the typical Tuesday announcement have been updated.

It has been more than a month since Government Gavin Newsom lifted the local home order on January 25 and provinces fall within the framework for reopening colors.
The state’s system sorts provinces into four levels – “purple” (widespread), “red” (substantial), “orange” (moderate) or “yellow” (minimal) – which measures the distribution of COVID-19 and determines which species businesses and activities are allowed to open.
