After a long disappointment from Meghan McCain, co-presenter of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg paused for three full seconds to process and then made a simple but measured response: “OK.”
The sentiment resonated at home, and a snippet of the moment quickly caught up with more than 1.6 million views when it shot the name of Whoopi on Twitter’s list of topics on Twitter.
McCain’s comments come during a discussion on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Sunday night interview with Oprah Winfrey and British TV personality Piers Morgan, who stormed ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Tuesday after being called out for Markle’s revelations about her mental health battle to question. .
McCain took the conversation in a new direction. She gave a play on the American Revolution and how she likes to visit Virginia’s Mount Vernon as ‘the home of our Founding Fathers’, explaining that she does not want to defend the monarchy because she is a red-blooded 100% American which celebrates freedom anyway I can. She then discussed a gender gap in the UK between how young and old people view the monarchy, and ‘encouraged all Americans to visit Mount Vernon and see why monarchies are stupid’.
“The American experiment is the right way, and if we have two American women – Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey – who are single-handedly finishing what George Washington and our revolutionary counterparts did, I’m totally for it,” she concluded.
Goldberg offered an ‘OK’ before cutting to an ad, saying, ‘I think we’ll talk more about this when we get back.’
Although it is known that the panel of the program is controversial, especially tense moments between Goldberg and McCain have often bubbled up online in the past.
