Who lands the Giants?

Mock draft season is in jeopardy as the NFL draft approaches in 2021 – now just eight days away. And that means it’s time for Mel Kiper Jr.’s annual combo spot. and Todd McShay of ESPN.

The rules of the combined appearance design are simple:

  • Three full rounds, all 105 choices.
  • The selection alternates with Kiper starting at number 1.
  • No cheating or baiting is allowed.

So how did the New York Giants fare in this dueling spot? Well, at number 11, they got a gem in Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith (selected by Kiper).

Daniel Jones needs more weapons, and now he will have the Heisman Trophy winner, in addition to Kenny Golladay, who has the free agent. This Giants offense can be dangerous in the NFC East.

Smith’s chances of being available here: 47.6%

In the second round, it was McShay’s turn to make a choice for the Giants. He settled on the edge of Oklahoma, Ronnie Perkins.

I love this pass. Perkins is an excellent pass-rusher, who exactly needs the Giants, and that’s a good value for him in this series. He had 5.5 bags last season and nine QB rushes in just six games.

McShay also made the final Giants pick at No. 76 in the third round, along with North Carolina linebacker Chazz Surratt.

Surratt has a sideline-to-sideline range and can cover tight ends or runners in the passing game. He brings another element to the Giants’ lineout corps.

All three of the players are an interesting choice and will likely play important roles outside the gate for the Giants, but does that address all of the team’s concerns? Would you be happy with these choices over the first three rounds, Big Blue fans?
