‘Whiteout, Brutal Conditions’ on I-70, Closures in Colorado Mountains, Fountains and East – CBS Denver

(CBS4) Authorities closed Interstate 70 in the foothills of Colorado during the blizzard that hit the state Sunday. It is also not going well on the Eastern Plains.

From 1:45 a.m., I-70 had weather-related closures in the following areas:

– From Golden to Floyd Hill (on the border of Clear Creek County and Jefferson County)
– Airpark Road in Aurora to Burlington near the border between Colorado and Kansas
– Eastward Silverthorne to Georgetown

Colorado State Patrol officials said in a tweet that the conditions on Floyd Hill are: “white-out-cruel conditions”.

Some out-of-state drivers tried to reach the Colorado ski resorts amid the blizzard. A family from Orlando, Florida, told CBS4 they took a turn at I-70 and got stuck in the snow.

‘We’re on our way to Breckenridge to go skiing. The girls had to use the toilet. “We could not get up the hill with the two-wheel drive truck, so we backed up and he put it in the ditch,” said one of the family members.

“What advice would you give to other people if it was their first time driving in the snow?” asks Justin Adams of CBS4.

“If you’re going to rent a vehicle, make sure it’s four-wheel drive, not two-wheel drive,” he laughs. “Other than that, hey, that’s what this’s about.”

The family was able to borrow a tow rope and set off again. But they probably won’t forget their ski trip to Colorado anytime soon.

According to meteorologist Ashton Altieri, a Blizzard warning, winter storm warnings and winter weather advice continue in many areas of the state, with additional congestion expected in all areas.
