White Sox sign Liam Hendriks, top free agent closer

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to agree with the narrower Liam Hendriks on a three-year contract with a fourth-year option, league sources said Monday. Hendriks is guaranteed $ 54 million, regardless of whether the option is taken up or not.

The deal, the largest to date in a slow-moving off-season market, depends on a deal.

Hendriks (31) has hit the Oakland A’s 14 times in the shortened 2020 season. He has hit 39 times in the last two seasons and an ERA of 1.79 – the best ERA of any pitcher with at least 75 overs. At that time he hit 161 batsmen in 110 overs. In his last appearance for the A’s, Hendriks hit three output innings for the victory at the end of Game 3 of the American League division series.

Hendriks, a native of Perth, Australia, by Matt Hannaford of the ALIGND Sports Agency, was an All-Star in 2019 for the first time, his ninth major season, and in 2020 ninth in the vote of AL Cy Young.

The White Sox want to supplement Hendriks on last season’s playoffs, the first since 2008, and added Hendriks six weeks after trading for the past two seasons for Lance Lynn, 22-14, with an ERA of 3.57 for the Texas Rangers . The White Sox also signed the Adam Eaton campaign.

Hendriks replaces Alex Colome, who became a free agent after two successful seasons with the White Sox. Hendriks was the best available reliever of the free market.

The Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers shared interest in Hendriks.
