While Eagles trade Carson Wentz, Bears get impatient

The Eagles stuck to their asking price for Carson Wentz, and the trading market cooled.

A person with knowledge of the Eagles negotiations – who was given anonymity to speak freely about an impending trade – told NJ Advance Media that the potential trading partners remained ‘disciplined’ in the negotiations and not willing to tell the Eagles to meet their demands.

“They do not want to give up on (Wentz) for much less than (the Matthew Stafford trek),” another person with knowledge of the negotiations told NJ Advance Media on Tuesday. The Detroit Lions sent Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for the Rams’ first-round draft pick in 2022 and 2023, a third-round pick in 2021, and quarterback Jared Goff.

According to a third person with knowledge of negotiations, who also granted anonymity, the Indianapolis Colts asked for additional compensation – a player, a player or a choice – along with Wentz to come to the Eagles’ claims. The person said another irrelevant Eagles player was brought into discussions.

One source says that the Chicago Bears – another stakeholder – are getting impatient. According to the person, the Bears believe the Eagles overvalued Wentz.

While Stafford was appreciated by the Rams, the heavy compensation sent to Detroit was due in part to the fact that the Lions had entered into Goff’s massive contract, which includes a guaranteed salary of $ 25 million this season.

Wentz is probably the next big fullback to change teams. While other quarterbacks, such as Sam Darnold of the Jets and Marcus Mariota of the Las Vegas Raiders, can be traded, Wentz is most likely moved.

If Darnold, Mariota or another quarterback were traded to Indianapolis or Chicago, the Eagles would lose leverage. At the moment, the Eagles have at least two teams interested in Wentz. If the number drops, the Eagles may have to accept the offer of the remaining group or deal with an awkward situation when training camp begins.

Wentz comes at the end of a terrible season in which he was in the game after 12 games for Jalen Hurts, a rookie. Despite playing a shortened season, Wentz still took the lead with 15 interceptions. He also led the league by being sacked 50 times while playing behind a turn-off line.

Wentz was one year removed from the leading Eagles to an NFC East title during the only 4000-year season in team history. He was also just three years removed from a 2017 MVP-like season.

Wentz has ties to the Bears and Colts coaching staff. He worked under Colts head coach Frank Reich, wide receiving coach Mike Groh and senior attacking assistant Press Taylor in Philadelphia. He worked with the Bears, John DeFilippo, coordinator and coach of the Bears team, at the Eagles.

Whether a trade is threatening or not, NJ Advance Media’s source on the initial report is adamant that Wentz will likely still be dealt with, even if the negotiations extend beyond this week.
