PRE-ORDERING: The new Ring Video Doorbell Wired, released on February 24, is available for pre-order on Amazon and Ring.com for $ 59.99. (Add a ring bell for another $ 20.)

The benefits of owning a video doorbell have only increased in recent years: it gives you the peace of mind of knowing exactly who appears on your doorstep (which is valuable information, even if you spend most of your time at home), and makes it easier to pick up secure, contactless deliveries and visits.

Amazon’s home security and smart brand Ring is one of the biggest names in the video doorbell game, and from next month its convenience and protection will be cheaper than ever before: the company announced this week that it’s coming out with a new video ringing sold for $ 59.99, which is $ 40 less than the standard Video Doorbell.

The Video Doorbell Wired, as this new kid in the block is called, was available on February 24th and was already available for pre-order at select retailers on January 28th.

Aside from being the cheapest video doorbell yet, the Video Doorbell Wired is also the smallest of Ringbut that does not mean its functionality is limited, the company says. Instead, its 1080p HD camera is equipped with night vision, advanced motion detection and customizable privacy zones, and a two-way noise-canceling call feature keeps the conversations between you and your visitor (s) crystal clear. . Connect it to your phone (via the Ring app) or any Alexa-enabled smart device for real-time notifications when someone is stationary, announcing or otherwise.

As with any Ring video doorbell, you can choose to sign up for a Ring Protect plan to have the device record all your videos and save the recording for up to 60 days for further review and sharing. (It sells separately and starts at $ 3 per month or $ 30 per year.)

The main difference between the Video Doorbell Wired and Ring’s other offering is exactly what is implied in its name: it must be connected to an existing wiring of the doorbell. (Models like the Video Doorbell Pro, Video Doorbell 3, and Video Doorbell Elite give you the option to have wireless battery power.) The setup is fortunately a bit: Ring says you can do standalone installation without the help of a professional through this guide or the Call app using an embedded toolkit.

Note that the Ring Video Doorbell Wired will not ring your existing doorbell bell, so you will need a Ring Chime or a paired Alexa device to hear sound alerts when someone switches on.

Available in a sleek black finish, you can pre-order it at or for $ 59.99. (The latter will bring in a free 30-day trial of Ring Protect, FWIW.)
