Where to buy a PS5: everything we know about how to get Sony’s new console

Sony has the PlayStation 5 back in November and the console is now the fastest selling console in US history, but even the kind of hardcore gamers who waited in line at midnight for their PS3 or PS4 are still recording a new PS5. If you have first-hand experience with low inventory and the frustrating struggle of trying to find a console in an online shopping cart, this is probably not shocking.

As of March 21, no regular stores have PlayStation 5 consoles in stock. Despite declining inventory at various retailers, the PS5 continues to sell out in both its configurations: the $ 400 digital version with no optical drive and the more expensive $ 500 Blu-ray Model. If you are willing to pay more than the ticket price, you can get a PS5 or PS5 bundle from a retailer like eBay or StockX. However, we recommend waiting. In a few more months, we expect things to turn around and stock levels to rise, and then you may regret spending $ 1,000 or more a few months earlier to get a PS5. Check back here for the latest updates on when retailers have stock and offer it for sale online.

You can monitor yourself where the PS5 is available; Twitter, for example, is a good source of recurring rumors. But we are sometimes notified directly by retailers and tipsters about the upcoming stock, and we update this message immediately. Again, note: it will probably take months before anything approaching normal stock levels appears in stores, so to get your own PS5, it’s probably until the earliest summer. Below is a list of all the major retailers (and some high profile sellers) where you can monitor inventory and availability.

PS5 revisit options at major retailers

You can check out Amazon’s $ 400 digital edition page via the button below, or, if you like, get in line for the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500.

Best Buy is offering the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500 along with the Digital Edition of $ 400 (which you can find by clicking the button below). The retailer also offers a bunch of accessories on its PS5 landing page.

When in stock, Target is offering the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500, in addition to the PS5 Digital Edition, which you can find by clicking the button below.

You can check the availability of the $ 400 digital edition at Walmart by clicking the button below, or you can try to pick up the more expensive PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500.

We do not recommend spending more than retail to get a PS5, but if you need a console now, eBay is your shortcut to getting a console. That said, expect to pay hundreds-over-the-list; the average PS5 price on eBay is around $ 800.

If you have exhausted all the usual retail options and are willing to pay hundreds more than the price, you may want to visit StockX, an eBay alternative that has made its name in the secondary market for sneakers and designer clothing. The last time we checked it, the prices of the PS5 dropped just under $ 650. We do not think it’s worth it, but let your conscience (and your wallet) be your guide).
