Wheel falls off plane en route to O’Hare, ends up in the garden of the Jefferson Park home

A wheel fell off a small plane en route to O’Hare International Airport on Thursday and landed in the yard of a house in Jefferson Park on the northwest side.

According to Chicago police, the wheel was ‘disconnected from an airplane’ and was discovered in the garden just before 7pm in the 5500 block of West Leland Avenue. No injuries were reported.

The Chicago Department of Aviation said the wheel of Boutique Air Flight 835 fell off, running an essential airline route between Chicago and Ironwood in the Upper Michigan Peninsula. ‘

Airport operators at O’Hare were notified of the incident when the plane, a single-engine Pilatus PC12, landed on Runway 28Center and caused sparks to fly from the missing left landing gear, CDA said. None of the five passengers or two crew members on the flight were injured.

Runway 28Center is out of order, but air traffic did not affect the disruption, O’Hare said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an investigation into the incident with support from CDA and CPD.
