In those days, switching to a new phone meant you would lose most of your local data. Over time, it has become easier to transfer your files, settings and contacts, provided you stay in the same ecosystem. For example, if you get a new Android phone, your WhatsApp conversations and media will be automatically restored thanks to an online backup of Google Drive. However, if you decide to get an iPhone, there is no official way to recover your conversations and media from your Android phone. WhatsApp is reportedly working to fix this caveat, thanks to a native solution to automatically transfer your chat history across platforms.

It’s no secret what WhatsApp is doing to allow users to chat from different devices with the same number. Although it is not entirely clear how this feature will be implemented, it does make sense that WhatsApp will also enable backups on different platforms. Whether you are using different devices at the same time or just switching from one device to another, the structure for accessing and synchronizing your conversations on different devices needs to be harmonized.

The feature is not yet available, but new leaks indicate that users can migrate their chat history from iOS to Android and vice versa. According to the screenshot above, it looks like the process will not be automatic and that it needs to be activated manually to start the transfer.

It is essential to keep in mind that the feature has not yet been implemented, so it may work differently when it officially appears.
