What’s the difference between Therian and Incarnate in Pokémon GO?

From Tuesday, Pokémon GO will begin rolling out the Therian Formes of Landorus, Tornadus and Thundurus. Players are familiar with this Pokémon, but see its new versions adding to the game for the first time. Let’s examine what the real difference is between these versions.

At the most basic level, the difference between the incarnate and Therian form is the same as the difference between origin Forms Giratina and altered form Giratina, normal Deoxys and the other variants, and so on. This means that there is a physical change and that a statistic changes. The ‘original’ version introduced in the games was the incarnate version, but there is some dialogue in the original games suggesting that it is uncertain what the ‘true’ form and appearance is: the incarnation or the animal Therian.

On the practical side of things, we are looking at a change in the statistics. Here are the stats, side by side, of each of these legendary in Pokémon GO in their different forms:

  • Landorus incarnate
    • Attack: 261
    • Defense: 182
    • Endurance: 205
  • Landorus Therian Forme:
    • Attack: 289
    • Defense: 179
    • Endurance: 205
  • Tornadus incarnate form
    • Attack: 266
    • Defense: 164
    • Stamina: 188
  • Tornadus Therian Forme:
    • Attack: 238
    • Defense: 189
    • Stamina: 188
  • Thundurus Incarnate Forme
    • Attack: 266
    • Defense: 164
    • Stamina: 188
  • Thundurus Therian Forme:
    • Attack: 295
    • Defense: 161
    • Stamina: 188

The changes in the statistics from incarnation to Therian are not consistent from species to species. Landorus’ attack goes up and defense stops very slightly. Tornadus’ attack drops pretty drastically, with his defense increasing. Eventually, Thundurus’ attack goes to the highest number of the three, with his defense barely falling. The Stamina remains the same for all three.

Therian Thundurus will arrive on Tuesday in place of Incarnate Thundurus. Pokémon GO announced that Therian Forme Tornadus will be launched next week. While not explicitly stated, I’m sure we can expect Therian Forme Landorus, the last of the trip, next week. Stay tuned for Bleeding Cool for our Therian Thundurus Raid Guide, who will help you build a team to tackle this Pokémon.
