Val guys neon-soaked season four is officially out today. The update introduces a number of changes to the platformer generous, including seven new levels:

  • Basket fall: Yes, Val guys get another team-based ball-throwing mini-game. Don’t we already have learn this lesson with Egg Scramble?
  • Skyline Stumble: Earlier this month, Mediatonic shown from Skyline Stumble as the first teaser of season four. It contains 60 players, low-gravity zones and whatever ‘flippity bippities’ are.
  • Short circuit: This one is a short run. Get it? Eh?
  • Hoverboard Heroes: Like the best Val guys levels, Hoverboard Heroes looks like a crazy streak through an inventive obstacle course.
  • Kragrit: You know those team mini-games where you are put down in a panel area, and then you have to step on the panels to switch it over to your team? Power Trip is one of them.
  • Big shots: Big Shots Like Val guys Yahtzee. Take the core concept of Fruit Chute – evade giant objects that are blown out of cannons – except that the objects instead of fruits become giant planets. Then let players balance on one of the seesaws from the Sea Saw level, everyone’s favorite round.
  • Scroll to: Val guys is at its best during the straight obstacle course in which a gazillion of pastel-colored beans jump to the end. Roll On is one of them, which mixes the twist-course elements of Roll Out.

Val guys season four will also introduce a group mode that connects players in small groups of four. If someone in your group wins the final round, you all strive for victory – a blessing for those of us who are constantly reaching the final fourth round only to lose. Groups also change how elimination works. In races, you will score points according to when you completed the race. Teams with the lowest score are kicked. The same principle applies to group survival rounds: Stay longer on the track and earn more points.

Today, daily challenges and a new currency called Crown Shards are also being added. Collect 60 of them, and you can earn money for a crown. In theory, this should lower the barrier to earning crowns (and, more importantly, the use of the crown to the increasingly crazy cosmetics of the game).

This comes with a number of bug fixes that Mediatonic offers set out in a tweet last week. In the first place, Fall Mountain will now spawn players in a single line to give no one the advantage. In Door Dash you will no longer be disqualified if you complete the race so difficult which you launch over the edge. There are also other general performance solutions, user interface enhancements and the like. But best of all, you can stop at any time after the elimination, which means you do not have to wait until the next round is loaded.

With previous Val guys seasons, I quickly jumped off and found that each new season contributes little to the game. But seven new rounds that also look fun can be enough to pull me in. On top of that, the seasonal theme – a distant future that looks disturbingly like the 80s, minus the cocaine – is intriguing. We will see how long the interest is.
