What we know about the victims of the shooting in Boulder, Colorado

Police have identified the ten victims who died after a gunman shot at a crowded supermarket in Boulder, Colorado. The victims included a 51-year-old policeman who responded to the scene of the attack.

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested Monday and charged with ten counts of first-degree murder. Police said the suspect was shot and was admitted to hospital in a stable condition.

President Joe Biden expanded his condolences to the families of the victims. “Ten lives have been lost and more families have been crushed by gun violence in the state of Colorado,” he said Tuesday.

There are currently few details available on the victims, but this is what we know so far:

Talley, an 11-year-old veteran at the Boulder police station, rushed to the shooting at the grocery store, where he was fatally shot.

Talley was a father of seven and loved his community, Maris Herold, a Boulder police officer, told a news conference. Herold called his shooting attempts “heroic” and said: “he is all he deserves and needs policing.”

His sister, Kirstin, remembered her brother Twitter: “My heart is broken. I can not explain how beautiful he was and what a devastating loss it is for so many people. Fly high, my dear brother. You have always wanted to be a pilot (damn color blindness).

The death of the 25-year-old was confirmed by both the police and her aunt Lori, who remembered her niece on Facebook.

“Thank you, everyone, for all your prayers, but the Lord got a beautiful young angel yesterday …” she writes in part. “We will post details of her arrangements in the coming days.”

Mahoney’s daughter, Erika, mourned her father on Twitter, saying he ‘represents everything love loves’.

“I’m so grateful he was able to walk me down the aisle last summer,” she wrote Tuesday. “I’m pregnant now. I know he wants me to be strong for his granddaughter. I love your Dad forever. You’re always with me.”

Murray, an Instacart employee, was working when he was killed at the grocery store. The founder and CEO of the company, Apoorva Mehta, sympathized with the Murray family.

“Violence of any kind has no place in our society, and our teams work with law enforcement and the King Soopers team to help in any way we can,” Mehta said. “We reached out to the store family to provide our support and resources during this unimaginably difficult time.”
