The clash of the titans is around the corner, and a few people managed to witness the massacre and tell the story. Godzilla teen Kong pits the biggest monsters on the planet against each other in an epic duel that is pre-eminently a cultural event. But here’s the question: is it a battle that requires seats on the city side?
The first reactions to Godzilla teen Kong arrived online, giving us a better understanding of how much you would expect or fear for this new movie.
First, here is / Film’s own Ben Pearson:
Godzilla vs Kong: better than Godzilla: King of the Monsters. All the human things are still bad, but the great monster action in this must satisfy the people who are interested in a movie like this.

And here are other reactions, compiled from Twitter:
I’m not crazy about the previous GODZILLA movie (it’s my least favorite of the four) – the story is confusing and you can not really see the fights. Here completely different – the story dug and the battles are pretty awesome. Director Adam Wingard’s “Midnight Movie” vibes are about this pic.twitter.com/Ax4het5M0n

#GodzillaVsKong is a hell of a ride! It truly feels like some things are missing and flying on a greased track. But that’s part of why I love it so much, in the shadow of the plot heavy KOTM. The battles are epic, and Adam Wingard brings his style and color to the MonsterVerse. pic.twitter.com/NjnVusQCrr

As expected – and probably as it should be – the titan fights are the best parts of #GodzillaVsKong . Adam Wingard definitely has the eye to make the most of those moments! Do not think they have nailed down how to record human characters yet, but the first class ensemble helps. pic.twitter.com/ttpmNJOElo

I absolutely hated the previous Godzilla movie. So here’s the biggest praise I can give a movie like GODZILLA V. KONG: it’s a cohesive movie with day fights and I could always see what’s going on. I really mean it as a compliment.

#GodzillavsKong is a visual spectacle with charming battle scenes between the two iconic titans. Wingard’s directing style is fully displayed in a colorful and breathtaking way, which also returns to the Kaiju style from the 80s. Needless to say, this movie is an explosion! pic.twitter.com/j31lc55iVO

#GodzillaVsKong is breathtaking, out of this world, and easily the best in the series! The core of the story is Kong, and the human story complements the monsters’ adventures and makes them shine. Just seeing the two iconic monsters fighting each other is worth it. pic.twitter.com/cHEe1f579M

#GodzillaVsKong is the movie we’ve been waiting for. Three rounds of these two titans go head to head.
This is an action-packed movie that claims to be seen on the biggest screen. # TeamKong # TeamGodzilla @GodzillaVsKong https://t.co/1mrnwcpGMt

So there you have it: everyone seems to agree that the monster fights are off the top shelves, even though the reaction to the necessary human scenes is a bit more mixed. Yet it sounds like fans of movies where monsters beat each other up in skyscrapers have every reason to be excited.
Last edited by Adam Wingard, Godzilla teen Kong is the latest entry in the so-called “MonsterVerse”, which includes 2014s Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, en Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The critical response to the series so far has been wildly mixed and the box office returns were uneven at best. As this new movie hits theater and HBO Max simultaneously as part of Warner Bros. ‘an ambitious release strategy for 2021, there’s a chance that this duel with icons will be many people’s first encounter with this universe. This is a daring strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it bears fruit for them.
