With the latest information pointing to a possible fingerprint reader for an upcoming Google Pixel device, we have a question for everyone: What’s the best place for a fingerprint reader? Is this the back of the phone, as on the Pixel 5? An on-screen ultrasonic or optical reader, like on Samsung Galaxy and OnePlus phones? Or what about the side of phones, like on Sony devices?
Technically, there are no wrong answers here, it’s a personal preference thing. But because it is me instead, yes, there are wrong answers. Although ultrasonic readers are much better than optical sensors in my experience, I will take a look at the Pixel 5’s rear fingerprint reader setting over a reader every day of the week. There is something about the speed and consistency of the rear readers that is a much better experience than other options. That’s just my opinion, but I’ve used a lot of phones, so I’m comfortable fighting over it.
