While I definitely think the PlayStation 5 has a much more appealing design than the Xbox Series X, I can understand why some find the Xbox’s geometric, boxy design soothing. It is traditional, bordering on nonsense, and the straight lines seem like the logical decision in today’s hyper minimalist world where almost all of our devices are rectangular. Although, just as boxy and straightforward as the Xbox Series X, it’s just not a PlayStation … right?
If you’re a PlayStation enthusiast who ‘questions’ the organic design of the console, Ismail Mits has a compromise for you. Its PlayStation 5 concept features a geometric design that feels like a well-calibrated blend of Sony and Microsoft styles. The concept console has the shape of an extruded rectangular triangle. With the dynamic design, you keep it on your table in any way, and the triangular top fits well with the triangular icon often used in PlayStation visual assets. The gates are located on the wider level, while a neatly placed slot at the front acts as a disk drive. The ‘boxy-yet-not-boxy’ PS5 concept sticks to the same Stormtrooper color palette of the original design and even has the same blue lighting, albeit at the bottom of the device, so it can give the floor or your TV cabinet ‘ a beautiful blue blue was when the console turned on!
