At the end of 2019, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 was introduced; it surprised us with a low price and yet an amazing design and cameras, and it ended up being one of the best phones of the year. But despite our hopes, there was no Xiaomi Mi Note 11 in 2021 – so what happened?
Well, we are going to assume that the phone has been canceled, or at least significantly pushed back from the expected release date at the end of the year that rumors have been circulating.
We have tried to contact Xiaomi about this, but we have not yet received any comments from the company. There was no certainty that the Mi Note 11 would come out as there was not a Mi Note 9 in 2018, but many tech fans appreciated the fantastic value of the Mi Note 10.
Why did the Xiaomi Mi Note 11 not come when we expected it to? It is possible that the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 sold poorly, or that Covid-19 made production a challenge, but we think it was something else – it looks like another phone replaced the Mi Note 11.
Xiaomi had a busy 2020 and launched new phones left, right and center. Did one of these brand new devices replace the Xiaomi Mi Note line? We think these three phones contributed to the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 not being able to see a successor.
Xiaomi Mi 11
The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 came four months before the launch of the Mi 10, Xiaomi’s flagship range for 2020. This meant that the Note device had enough time to stand on its own and attract potential buyers before the next series of phones were introduced.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 was launched on December 28, much earlier than the launch of many that was originally expected. Xiaomi might have thought that the early release was too close to the November release that the Mi Note 11 would expect, and thus conquered the latter line.
After all, rumors of the Xiaomi Mi 11 version started a long time ago – few would have bought the Mi Note 11, knowing that the Mi 11 would be coming soon, as it would probably be waiting on the flagship line when the launch was so close.
Maybe we’ll see the Xiaomi Mi Note 11 coming later then? Maybe it lands in February when the Mi 11 is expected to launch, but we’m not holding our breath.
Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro
Launched in mid-2020, the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro is a very different phone from the Mi Note 10, but it was exactly the same kind of selling point – the ‘flagship killer’ mid-range.
Like the Mi Note 10, the Poco F2 Pro had a low price but specifications that looked like on a more premium device. Sure, those elevated specs were different – the Mi Note 10 had a fantastic design and cameras, while the Poco F2 Pro was heavier on the performance side, but they were still in competition.
Maybe Xiaomi saw the Poco F2 Pro as too much of a competitor to the Mi Note 11 to make the latter worthwhile. If that’s true, it’s a shame – as we said, they were quite different – and we think most phone fans prefer one over the other.
Xiaomi Mi 10T
As with the Poco F2 Pro, the Xiaomi Mi 10T series strives for the same mid-range as the Xiaomi Mi Note series – after all, it’s Xiaomi’s main domain. Unlike the Poco, this device, launched in September 2020, has a name that may confuse some buyers for the Mi Note 10.
For both of these reasons, it is possible that Xiaomi thought that the Mi 10T line would compete with a new Mi Note phone, and decided to use the Mi Note 11. Of course, this is a different number than the Mi 10T, but given how non-fans can get very confused with all Android phone names, there is still the risk for certain buyers.
It is quite possible that the presence of three Mi 10T phones just meant that Xiaomi simply could not make any more devices – they only came out two months before we were expecting the Mi Note 11, and given Covid-19 some tech companies have manufacturing issues had .
The Xiaomi Mi 10T series were good stand-ins for the Mi Note 11, but they were not quite as convincing. No matter how unlikely we are, we cross our fingers and hope that the Mi Note 11 is delayed and not canceled.
