Hi, Hoynsie: After two weeks of the season, it appears that the Indians have good pre- and post-relief. The hit is streaky and they get ‘little or no’ production from midfield and first base. Your thoughts? Tom, Mount Vernon.

Hi, Tom: It is difficult to argue with your conclusions. The rotation was extraordinary, especially Shane Bieber and Aaron Civale. I like the way the back of the bullpen acted with Nick Wittgren, James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase combining to protect clues. Bryan Shaw also helped. The offense was unfortunate, as was the defense, especially in the outfield.

This pitching is far too good to be true to the moment. Misplays in the outfield usually lead to runs, not just extra bases. Josh Naylor is still learning the right field and he needs more lessons. Center field is an act of juggling. Eddie Rosario is right in the left field, but he does not pay much attention to the cut-off man.

Hi, Hoynsie: What does the pitcher do the whole game after failing to get through the first innings? – Bill, Franklin Tenn.

Hello, Bill: He’s probably sitting for a while longer. Or he sits on the couch and cheers for his teammates to gather up and clean up his mess. I do not think he will watch the video of his performance the next day. . .if not at all.

Hi, Hoynsie: I think Yu Chang looks remarkably comfortable and athletic at first glance. That makes Monday night’s non-baseball-related criticism stupid. The play is made 99 times out of 100 successful. – Mike, Avon.

Hi, Mike: Chang played well on first base. It was an aggressive game on his part that did not work. There is no place for the kind of criticism he has received on social media. I thought he handled it well.

Hi, Hoynsie: Isn’t it time to break ties with Ben Gamel and Jake Bauers? Why not give Bobby Bradley an extended look and let one of the outside players – Oscar Mercado, Bradley Zimmer or Daniel Johnson – try to establish themselves in the big leagues? – Kurt, Canton.

Hi, Kurt: You guessed it, it’s frustrating to see Gamel, Bauers and most of the groups on the board struggle. When I talk to Chris Antonetti, president of baseball operations, I do not get the impression that there will be any major changes after 13 games. That doesn’t mean Bradley, Mercado, Zimmer and Johnson won’t get a chance this season. It just does not sound like that chance, other than something unexpected, is going to come in April.

It was only soon, Bauers had three hits in the last two games and Gamel doubled on Friday night for his first hit of the season.
