What Daniel Jones thinks about signing Giants’ Kenny Golladay

Daniel Jones and Kenny Golladay have already made a connection.

Of course not on the field. It’s coming later. It was a greeting, and Jones reached out to his new target, Golladay, after the Giants signed the big receipt on Saturday for a four-year deal worth $ 72 million.

“He just said how well he thought I was a player,” Golladay said. ‘I said about the same thing about him. He also just said we are trying to do something great here. This is what I’m about. ‘

The Giants have done nothing good in Jones’ two seasons. Golladay can help change that. At 6-foot-4, he could be the number 1 threat that Jones is missing, a legal weapon on the outside that can play in the field and catch in traffic. Golladay’s power, to get to the field, and Jones’ best feature, to throw it down the field, should offer a rewarding combination.

“I’m very excited to have Kenny,” Jones said. “He was a great playmaker in the league. When we spoke, he was interested in the culture we have in the building and the mindset of the team. I think he heard it from the coaches, but wanted to hear how we view it as players and how much we believe in it. I think it was important for him to find the right fit. ‘

After four years that the heavily armed Matt Stafford with the Lions threw the ball to him, Golladay (27) now has a new quarter to break into. Jones turns 24 next month and maybe Golladay can help with a ripening process in need of a quantum step forward.

“First of all, he’s still a little fresh in the league and I want to grow with him,” Golladay said. “I’m still growing as a player, and I feel he and I can do some good things. We have not come to the practice field yet, but he and I are both very excited. ‘

Golladay has two 1,000-yard receiving seasons in its four NFL seasons and averages 16.8 yards per catch. He said he likes what he heard from attack coordinator Jason Garrett about the attack, but he obviously does not know many details about how he will be used in an offense that scored only 17.5 points per game in 2020.

“Just for me, this team will get a competitor, a guy who will come in, work, try to push other guys and have fun with it,” Golladay said. ‘I want to have fun while I do it, that’s what I do it for. Just a playmaker, you know? ‘

Golladay smiled when asked if he believed he could have an immediate impact.

“We haven’t even walked on the practice field yet,” he said. ‘I know for sure one thing, I’ll go there and do everything in my power to make this offense go away. If they need me, I’ll be there to make a play. ‘

Soon the Giants will see for themselves what they have added to their offense.

“I can’t wait,” Jones said, “to get on the field and work with him.”
