Western Digital doubles the maximum storage size of multiple portable SSDs to 4TB. Previously, the Western Digital SSD series had a maximum of 2 TB.
The 4TB storage configuration will be available under Western Digital’s My Passport and WD_Black black brands, along with its subsidiary SanDisk’s Extreme range. All products also include a five-year warranty.
From $ 680, My Passport SSD from Western Digital, which received a model refresh last August, promises up to 1050 MB / s read speed and 1000 MB / s write speed.

Western Digital’s Black P50 Game Drive SSD 4TB configuration will go on sale for $ 750 and will include read and write transfer speeds of up to 2000 MB / s. This external SSD is compatible with PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
But note: if you want to buy it as an external SSD to supplement the storage on your PS5 or Xbox Series X / S, there are some caveats. It can be connected to the PS5, but you can only store PS4 games. And while it will work on the Xbox Series X / S, this game drive is not compatible with next-generation SSD expansion output to take full advantage of next-generation hardware. The current SSD that takes full advantage of the X / S series hardware is Seagate’s expansion card, which is only available in 1 TB.

The SanDisk Extreme’s 4TB configuration costs $ 700 and promises to read speeds of up to 1050MB / s and write 1000MB / s. An even faster option, the 4TB Extreme Pro, costs $ 900 and delivers transfer and read and write speeds of up to 2000MB / s.
According to Western Digital, all of these products are expected to be launched “later this calendar quarter” on its website and the Western Digital website.
