WellMed’s COVID-19 vaccination hotline reopens, more doses coming to San Antonio

WellMed’s COVID-19 vaccination hotline will reopen on Saturday to schedule another 9,000 appointments.

The additional doses were allocated by the Texas Department of Public Health to WellMed’s two south and west sites. The hotline, which can be reached at 833-968-1745, will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until the slots are filled to register residents to receive the Moderna vaccine.

Appointments are required and are available for the Elvira Cisneros Senior Community Center and the Alicia Trevino Lopez Senior One-Stop Center.

The Alamodome has also received another 9,000 doses and will begin planning appointments on an ongoing basis so as not to overwhelm the system. About two thousand slots for Monday open Friday, another 2000 for Tuesday will be open Saturday, and so on. Registration will be available online here or by dialing 311 and selecting option 8.

Those currently eligible to receive the vaccine are health professionals, anyone 65 and older or adults 18 and older with chronic health conditions, according to state guidelines.

WellMed’s appointment system is fully telephonic. WellMedi requires the patience and perseverance of the public to make an appointment. The hotline has received more than 7.9 million calls since January 9 for the first round of mass vaccinations on the premises, according to a news release. Callers will know if the line is overwhelmed when they hear “The line you are trying to reach is out of order” or “All circuits are busy. Please try again later.”

In Bexar County, 52,910 were partially vaccinated, meaning they received the first injection and are waiting for the second. Another 12,105 of San Antonio’s 1,541,803 completed the process and were completely vaccinated, according to the San Antonio Express News vaccine.
