We’re only a week into the new year, but we’ve had enough to book. Several companies have shared some of their plans for next week’s CES 2021. And we already have our first new streaming service launch of the year. Meanwhile, Roku ended the week by acquiring the content left behind after Quibi’s closure.

Roku acquires Quibi content to stream exclusively on the Roku channel

We reported on rumors of a possible deal, but by the end of the week, Roku had officially confirmed that it had acquired Quibi’s content. The company plans to host films and screenings on The Roku Channel, meaning the public can still see the content produced by various groups for the fateful Quibi.

Discovery + launched this week: here’s what you need to know about the new streaming service

Samsung’s CES 2021 Series Includes Neo QLED, Solid MicroLED TVs

CES 2021 starts next week and several big name companies are offering a preview of their latest equipment. In Samsung’s case, it includes a new arsenal of TVs, including the company’s new Neo QLED series. Of course, next week we have a lot more at CES 2021.

Sony’s 2021 Bravia XR TV series includes ‘cognitive’ processing and Google TV

Sony also spent some time this week looking at what it has in store for CES 2021. The main range of the company’s offering is a new range of LCD and OLED TVs, known as the Bravia XR series, which boasts what the company calls ‘cognitive intelligence’.

What’s the latest in the industry?

Roku now has more than 50 million active accounts

Roku shared some preliminary figures for its fourth quarter of 2020 and it looks like the streaming platform has exceeded 50 million active accounts. The company allegedly added about 14 million accounts during the year.

Former Disney & Discovery executives will launch new service, Struum, this spring

A new service called Struum aims to make it easier to discover niche and special streaming services. The subscription offer is expected to launch later this year and we look forward to learning more about how it will work soon.

Hulu with Live adds 14 channels in extensive agreement with ViacomCBS

A new agreement between Hulu and ViacomCBS brings about 14 additional channels to Hulu with Live. The news follows recent price increases that raised the monthly price from $ 54.99 per month to $ 64.99.

FuboTV is expected to reach 545,000 subscribers in the fourth quarter

FuboTV also shared some early Q4 figures and the company expects about 545,000 subscribers as soon as the fourth quarter is official. Revenue is expected to fluctuate between $ 94 million and $ 98 million, an increase of 77% year-on-year.
