WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Weather forecast until Monday. Today a winter storm will produce light to moderate snowfall and dangerous winds cold. Tonight and Monday the snow will move out of the area, but the chilly cold fever will continue. Snowfall amounts reported in the southern part of Kansas until 8 a.m. range from 1.7 ″ at Eisenhower Airport (Wichita) to 4.5 ″ at Oxford (Cowley Co.). Elsewhere in Kansas, reports between 1-4 ″ are common.
More snow is expected to move from Oklahoma to Kansas during the day, and that will make the total contribution. Once the storm is over and moves east toward Missouri, the total snow accumulation should range from 1-3 ″ in northern Kansas, 3-5 ″ for the rest of the state, except in southern and southeastern Kansas (Wellington to Chanute) where 5 -8 ″ is possible. Chewing will also be a factor with north winds blowing up to 25 km / h. Wind chills will range from 15-25 degrees below zero and will only get worse tonight and Monday. The lowest wind chill values are expected in the morning hours on Monday and Tuesday and can drop to -25 to -35 across the country. Warnings and advice on wind chills were posted across the country on Tuesday morning. Frostbite can occur at these temperatures within 20-30 minutes. Record low temperatures are possible Monday and Tuesday mornings as temperatures fall considerably lower than nationwide.
Sunshine is expected on Monday as the storm system moves eastward. It remains very cold until Wednesday with high temperatures in the singles and teens. A few weak weather systems move through on Tuesday and Wednesday, but should cause only light snow and gusts. A slow warming trend begins Thursday through next weekend, reaching the low 40s by Saturday and Sunday.
