The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has put together some guidelines for exercise, and this week NBC News explained it to us. Among the most important guidelines, as NBC has emphasized, is the cost of wearing a mask while exercising in the gym.
Based on a study of a COVID-19 outbreak in Chicago in the late summer of 2020, the CDC concluded: ‘To reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in training facilities, employees and customers need to’ wearing a mask, even during intensity activities (10) while they are 6 m apart.
Does science follow?
Since many close-knit CDC followers are proud to follow science, it is noteworthy that this particular guideline does not correspond to science at all. Several studies have shown that wearing a mask during strenuous physical activity takes a huge toll on the body.
One study, published in Clinical Research in Cardiology, revealed that ‘cardiopulmonary exercise ability and comfort are reduced by surgical masks and severely impair the FFP2 / N95 face masks in healthy individuals.’
The study measured the lung function parameters and comfort of 12 active and healthy men when they performed three exercise tests, one without a mask, one with a surgical mask and the third with an N95 mask.
“Medical face masks have a clear negative impact on cardiopulmonary capacity which significantly impairs strenuous physical and occupational activities,” the results of the study concluded. ‘In addition, medical masks significantly impair the quality of life of their wearer. These effects should be considered in relation to the potential protective effects of face masks on viral transmission. ”
Another study published in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Sports Medicine found the heart rate of 23 healthy people with diverse sports backgrounds while walking on a treadmill for six minutes at four kilometers per hour, once with surgical masks and once without.
“The laboratory study to investigate the physiological effect of wearing a face mask found that it significantly increased the heart rate and observed the effort,” the study concluded. “Those who participate in exercise should note that face masks increase the physiological burden of the body, especially in those with multiple underlying comorbidities.”
Even the World Health Organization last year insisted on rebuking the conventional wisdom that people should wear masks while exercising, and this on the WHO’s “Mythbusters” page. “THE FACT: People should not wear masks while exercising,” the WHO said, noting that masks could “reduce the ability to breathe comfortably”.
While people still need to maintain social distance during exercise, the WHO said that sweat can not only saturate the masks of humans, making it more difficult to breathe, but that it also ‘promotes the growth of microorganisms’.
Absurd mask extremes
As anti-scientific as the new CDC guidelines are, NCB News has not only reported the changes. It also talked to some so-called experts and offered some of its own coronavirus fitness suggestions – and that’s absurd.
Jessica Steier and Andrea Love, who host ‘The Unbiased Science Podcast’, ‘explained that when you exercise, you have more powerful and fast breathing. “That means you exhale and inhale a greater amount of air,” NBC News said. ‘In turn, the relative risk of exposure to Covid droplets can be increased compared to standing still in the same space. And physical distance alone will not protect you. ”
It’s immediately clear that neither Tax, Love nor anyone is in the NBC editorial chain exercises – or at least they hope their readers do not and pass on these hilarious recommendations with a straight face. Of course, you breathe in a larger volume of air in and out as you exercise. This is one of the reasons why you wear such a mask while doing so.
The same goes for the white coats at the CDC, which say, ‘Remove your mask if it gets damp from sweating and replace it with a clean mask while exercising. Keep more than one mask on hand so you can easily replace a moisturizing mask with a dry mask. Have they ever been to the gym? To replace your mask every time sweat “moisturizes” you, you should rather bring a pack of surgical masks with a family value if you want to go through one complete cardio cycle.
It’s getting better. One of NBC News’ tips is: “It’s best to avoid showers if possible, as you can not wet masks – otherwise they will lose their effectiveness. If you have to shower in the gym, shower as quickly as possible and only remove your mask when your face and head get wet. ‘
If we recommend wearing a mask in the shower, we approach the “glamorous” masked sex level of insanity.
Public Health Seattle spent you visiting your grandmother for Thanksgiving, claiming you would kill her if you did. However, they also posted COVID sex advice online to set you up for a homemade glory hole with a shower curtain. You can not format it. Https://t.co/nMM9nwWvpk

Aside from ignoring science and even the crazy recommendations themselves, the worst part of the NBC article, however, is the way this kind of “journalism” elevates our pandemic response to a foolish way. NBC exploits the fear of people and their impulse to control the behavior of others, and offers these suggestions that apply the absurd CDC guidelines and elevate them to a ridiculous extreme.
It serves to shape public opinion in a helpless way, which not only exacerbates already restrictive mitigation measures when legislators and bureaucrats eat them, but that it drives up the social pressure where no one deserves it. The last thing we need is to disrupt Karens more mask that interrupts our cardio routines – you know what we do to blow off steam from the furious COVID Karens.
